Nizhny Novgorod Dobrolyubov State Linguistic University held the 2nd international scientific-educational forum “Language Policy and Linguistic Security”. In 2017 the event coincided with the 100th anniversary of the university. The 1st forum was mostly dedicated to the FLT methods and enhancing the image of the Russian language in the minds of youth. Russian is the official language in Russia, and it is a basis for transferring Russian values and standards and for protecting Russia from cultural and ideological invasion from the outside. Preservation and prosperity of the Russian language is the key factor of ensuring Russian ethnic and cultural independence. The Russian language is the keeper of civilization code and a way to express Russian unique value orientation.

This year famous scholars from Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Belgium, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Belarus, and Russia discussed ways of enhancing linguistic security and increasing their respective countries’ social and economic potential on the international arena in the context of geopolitical tension created by the switch from unipolarity to multipolarity of today’s world.

The discussions included ways of uniting the efforts of linguists, political analysts, experts in international relations, society studies, and philosophy, foreign language teachers and Russian as a foreign language teachers in increasing the quality of teaching Russian both in Russia and abroad.

The Forum received greetings from Russian politicians including Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and that proves the importance of the event not only for the community but for the whole country as well.

The aim of the forum “Language Policy and Linguistic Security” is to boost an open dialogue between countries, a dialogue based on mutual cooperation and respect for sovereignty of countries and cultural legacy of their peoples.
